these screenshots are only from like 4 or 5 different candles but i could’ve grabbed plenty more.

y’all, seriously, loss of smell is a possible effect of covid. if things don’t smell/taste as strong as you remember GET TESTED and ISOLATE. if someone you know is complaining about their candles not having a scent, inform them and encourage them to get tested. and wear a fucking mask, y’all.

What a fuckin metric to see the disease!

This feels like environmental story telling off a zombie video game

A Twitter user actually did a statistical breakdown of this.

My wife just skipped buying candles online last week because all the reviews were bad, and she assumed they were knock-offs or something.  Holy shit.

There are people who have barely left their homes in 9 months because they’re taking this seriously. Now imagine doing that and watching people just not give a fuck

It’s the people who dismiss this as “living in fear” that piss me off.

One thing I always bring up that straight writers obviously don’t understand but every gay person ever can attest to is that queer people stick together. Like, every queer person knows like 15 other ones and those 15 know even more.

Like, having only One in your story completely misses the point of how we organize and stay safe, in addition to completely missing the point on being progressive (ie, having A Single Gay in your story isn’t special anymore and hasn’t been for decades now)

It is a fundamental misunderstanding of how marginalized people act bc straight people are allowed to be solitary and they don’t understand any other way of Being

Hijacking this post to talk about something interesting! There’s a lot of criticism in fanfiction circles of yaoi or yuri fanfiction where ‘everybody is gay’, and it’s almost always by folks who haven’t been involved in queer communities. If you’re queer, you really do surround yourself with queer people - so ‘everybody is gay’ in a character’s social circle actually makes perfect sense!

this exhibits itself in other ways too, for example, when there’s one queer sibling there’s usually more - often because one sibling will bring the definitions home and the other will use that to explore their own identity!

Another weird phenomenon I noticed is this happens a lot even before people realize they’re Not Straight ™. Out of my close friends in high school, most of us turned out some form of LGBTQA, and I’ve heard other people say the same is true for them.
So people saying it’s “unrealistic” that everyone in the same social circle would gradually discover they’re Not Straight ™- yeah, it is totally reasonable and even likely.

#we know our own #sometimes before we know ourselves (tags via @anneapocalypse )

I have to wonder if maybe THIS is where straight people got the term “catching the gay”… You know?

My mother was so concerned when I moved to CA for college that I would “catch the gay”, and I was just like “???????? pretty sure it’s not something you catch like a cold, mom.” And ignored her.

It wasn’t until I started making friends in the LGBT community and spending time with them and loving them as people that I slowly became aware of the fact that I might not be straight. And after years of talking to LGBT youth and living in a city that embraces that culture, I found myself realizing that I was ALWAYS like this, but never realized it.

It’s like… you could go your ENTIRE life having the choice of eating raisin bran, bran flakes, or plain cheerios for breakfast. And that’s pretty much the only choices you’re offered. But then. THEN! You walk into a supermarket and see an ENTIRE AISLE of a billion cereal choices, and you realize “wait, I…are…are you telling me that I could have had LUCKY CHARMS for breakfast?!”

And OOOOHHHHHH BOI lemme tell you a thing, when you see your buddies eating captain crunch and lucky charms, and you realize you can ALSO have that?

Well, then - if “the gay” is contagious, then you’d better lock me in quarantine.

In my experience it’s actually way more common to have the one (1) straight person in the group then having a token gay.

I think that my group of friends from high school almost every single one of us is on the spectrum (gay, bi, ace, etc) and it is always so weird to see when there is just one lone gay in the wilderness, like sir sir have you gotten lost from your pack??? Do you need assistance?

#SaveTheTrees

I feel like an important message is trying to be communicated to me but I have no idea what it is

Our forests are being cut down 3x faster than they can grow! One acre of hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4.1 acres of trees!!! This is super useful for so many things, especially paper production! In addition, hemp takes in carbon dioxide 4x as fast as trees do, which makes it especially valuable in the act of reducing CO2 emissions/greenhouse gases! 🌲🌲🌲 source

#the scope of the anti-hemp conspiracy in the united states is terrifying once you start doing research tbh#like it was initially smeared/banned bc lumber lobbyists pushed for it to be…#and a major smear tactic was to associate it with black people#who now a hundred years later are the ones primarily being imprisoned for it#and the plant itself has now been inextricably linked to the drug so people won’t even allow for it to be grown for commercial purposes#like paper making (via literallyfuckeveryone)

Important reminder that industrial hemp can’t be used as a recreational drug, so if anyone tries to pull that card you can just stop them then and there. There are no real arguments against using industrial hemp, even if you’re rigidly against the legalization of any recreational drugs.

AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I never see pro-hemp on my dash, woo!

Usually the argument on why you can’t have hemp is because then people will hide marijuana in it.

yeah, sure…. if they want shitty, shitty marijuana.

It would be like growing sweet corn and dent corn together.  Yeah, they look similar at a distance and they’re closely related, but you don’t want them next to each other as they’ll cross pollinate and you’ll end up with bad versions of both.

Same deal here.  a patch of marijuana grown in an open field of hemp IS going to get contaminated and it’ll lower quality of BOTH crops.  Your hemp farmer doesn’t want that and if likely going rip out any patches trespassers try to add for same reason.

and the big issue is not even the THC content.  Because most quality marijuana is intended to be grown indoors or greenhouses, its a dwarf variety. Short.  Fiber hemp is bred for height so as to maximize fiber production.  super tall. It’s going to be really obvious, really fast if you’ve got both in the same field even before you get to the point of pollination. what’s this runty bullshit doing in my field?

They also have different growing needs with regards to spacing, harvest time, etc. so the argument that you can hide marijuana in industrial hemp fields are basically bullshit.

anyway… aside from paper, hemp fiber can also be used to make earthquake resistant concrete that’s actually LIGHTER than conventional concrete while being stronger. It’s better at resisting flexing or warping, so ideal for stuff like bridges and highway supports as it’ll better resist large temperature swings and vibration. (”hempcrete” is slightly different, but makes great fire resistant insulation)

You can also use the waste after fiber harvest for animal fodder, including silage. Comparable to corn. and remember, that’s the waste after you’ve harvested for fiber!

Unrelated, but for ski lifts there is a steel cable that you connect the chairlifts to, and over time the rope stretches and every so many seasons you have to have it cut down so that it’s not dangerous. They have different better in the cores but they used to have ones with hemp cores and Dad still laments the fact that they don’t make that type anymore because they were crazy strong, stretched less, and lasted a long while. They stopped making them when the whole “all hemp is marijuana and we can’t promote hemp anything” craze started happening.
